About Me - Richard M Gibson

Richard Gibson

In the 1970’s, one day after I had been accepted into a prestigious PhD program in clinical psychology, a family tragedy derailed my plans to become a therapist for two decades. Ironically, those 20 years yielded a wealth of life experience and a variety of endeavors that I know make me a much more effective clinician today – one who can better relate to my clients, their successes and disappointments, whatever their walk in life. Before finally becoming a therapist in 2000, I produced documentary films – one of which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival – managed bond departments for large brokerage firms,  lived in Greece for a year, wrote a novel and captained sailboat charters for recovering alcoholics on Chesapeake Bay. Less glamorous – yet still rewarding – pursuits included factory work during college summers, taxi driving during my filmmaking days, and personal training while in graduate school.
